The headline from CNN:
Romney assembles top-notch foreign policy team
(CNN) – On the eve of his foreign policy speech at The Citadel in South Carolina, former Massachusetts Gov. and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney announced selections for his foreign policy and national security team….
….Romney’s 22-member team of special advisers also includes former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman and former Missouri Sen. Jim Talent….
[emphasis added]
Top notch? More like retreads.
This must mean that you don’t have to show up for meetings.
–I was among them–visited Talent’s office in downtown St. Louis to protest the fact that the Iraq war was about to happen. The great man himself wasn’t there, but an affable young aide assured us that our concerns would be passed along and that he (the aide) would get back to us with a response from Talent.
Never happened. I’m sure Senator Talent was so positive that an invasion of Iraq was a splendid idea (yeah, great material for a foreign policy advisor, that Talent) that he saw no reason to trouble himself with details like us. (That’s assuming, of course, that the affable, enthusiastic young aide bothered passing along our–as it turned out, accurate–assessment of the dangers of an invasion.)
