We don't just know who we're mad at, we want Obama to go all Samuel L. Jackson on the GOP

I do love a good poll. I can’t help it. I love Statistics, and the way it stands at the nexus of science and math and answers all kinds of questions if we’re just smart enough to ask them — and frankly, no one does that better than the good folks at Pew Research.

Their latest poll on American political attitudes shows that while the gridlock in Washington has taken it’s toll on President Obama and the Democrats, dragging approval ratings down a few points over the long, hot summer we aren’t through with yet. Even with their numbers dipping, however, Democrats still fare far better than republicans overall, and President Obama is still lapping Congress as a whole, and especially the GOP House caucus and the republican party in particular. Only 22% approve of the job congressional republicans are doing, down from 36% over the same timeframe. The republican party as a whole has seen a decline in their approval rating fall from 43% to 34%.

I’m sure that a lot of people on the left cringed, and maybe even stopped reading when they got to this bit:

There also has been a substantial erosion of Obama’s leadership image. Since May, the percentage saying Obama is able to get things done has fallen from 55% to 44%, while the percentage viewing Obama as a strong leader has declined from 58% to 49%. Fewer Democrats and independents now view Obama as a strong leader than did so in May (down 10 points, eight points, respectively).

If they did get discouraged and stop reading then, however, they missed the payoff:

The better news for Obama is that he continues to be seen by majorities as someone who stands up for what he believes in (71%), as caring (63%) and trustworthy (59%). Moreover, his 43% job approval rating, while much lower than his rating just a few months ago, is relatively strong given the widespread dissatisfaction with national conditions, increasingly negative views of the economy, and broad distrust of government. And Obama’s approval rating continues to be much higher than those for congressional leaders of both parties.

[ … ]

Voters remain unimpressed by the GOP field. As was the case in late May, prior to the Ames straw poll and Rick Perry’s entry into the presidential race, only about a quarter of voters (26%) say they have an excellent or good impression of the possible GOP candidates. Most (64%) say as a group the candidates are only fair or poor.

Republican and Republican-leaning voters continue to express mixed views of the GOP candidates (49% excellent or good, 44% only fair or poor). In May, 44% of Republican voters said the party’s presidential field was excellent or good, while 43% said it was only fair or poor.

8 25 Pew results

No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. People are sick to death of these motherfuckin’ snakes on this motherfuckin’ plane the GOP in Congress and want to see Obama bring the pain to the recalcitrant racist dumbfucks who piss their pants at the mere thought of an angry black man. Even mainstream republicans (all seven of the ones surviving in the wild) want him to give them something to cry about.

Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder (r) may not be getting the high dollar contributions of late, but, there is another. Today, at the Missouri Ethics Commission:

In case Peter Kinder’s campaign crashes and burns, there is another? Well, at least for a place for republican sugar daddies to drop their big bucks contributions.

Todd Akin greets peaceful constituents. With cops.

Eight cop cars. That’s how many it took to quell the “riot” by 50 or so little old ladies and 50 others of assorted ages (and sexes) who tried to storm Representative Todd Akin’s office in West St. Louis County Wednesday afternoon.

You can see from the photos how dangerous they are. The woman in the photo above probably has a .44 tucked in that bag.

Todd Akin never responds to Democratic constituents

This pic of Mary Clemons looks hazy because it was 100 degrees at the time. I think that’s a heat haze you’re seeing. So aside from the fact that we lacked any actual .44s, we were about melted from the heat and chanting “Where’s Akin while we’re bakin’?”

Since Akin refuses ever to respond to requests from Democratic constituents asking for a meeting or a phone call, much less a town hall, these folks called their own town hall a block from his office and invited him to attend.

We waited around.

DSCN1420

He didn’t show. Of course. So the crowd had the gall to approach his majesty’s office and were told by the cops which little bright patch of sunlight they might occupy while they listened to a few speakers.

Why is it that peaceful people–and there were no weapons in this group more dangerous than a few rapier like wits–cannot even approach the office paid for by taxpayers without having the police–union workers that we taxpayers fund–sicced on them?

Clean energy and the military

An article about members of the Missouri National Guard leaving for a mission in Egypt  observed that it might be dangerous for them: “Extremists also have attacked a gas pipeline in the area that transports natural gas from Egypt to Israel and Jordan.” Americans have applauded the democratic movement of the Arab Spring, but we don’t know how much of the outcome will be chaotic. We’re forever trying to keep the lid on the MIddle East. Because. Of. Oil.

Operation Free, an organization of veterans, emphasizes that point day after day all over the U.S., namely that we need to convert to clean energy. For lots of reasons. But one of them is that we put our troops in harm’s way unnecessarily because of our addiction to black gold. Lt. General John G. Castellaw, USMC (retired) spoke in St. Louis at an Operation Free event.

Giving money to competing interests?

Starkly different views ELECTION 2008 – MISSOURI LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR Kinder, Page disagree on just about everything, including stem cells and Tour of Missouri.

….On the touchy topic that has split his party over the past couple of years – stem cell research – Kinder himself has been divided. He is campaigning as an opponent of embryonic stem cell research, and he says he was against Amendment 2, which protected that form of research in Missouri.

But in 2006, when the Amendment 2 battle was being waged, Kinder told the Post-Dispatch he was undecided. And a year earlier, he took credit for stopping a bill in the Legislature that would have criminalized stem cell research….

Yep, the single issue rubes get taken to the cleaners when they vote against their self interest on everything else.

Good Job Mr President!

I salute the president for our limited intervention in Libya.   The Libyan people asked for help.  We helped without any “boots on the ground.”   President Obama initiated talks with NATO to proceed against Gadaffi.  It was a NATO effort that worked.  We had no casualties and Libya is getting rid of Gadaffi.  Our President has won a military victory in Libya at a very low cost.   All of this “America takes over your nation crap” is not the way to go.  President Obama has demonstrated great leadership here as the Europeans have put their own skin in the game.  It’s a clear win!   This is the way things should be done.  Good job Mr. President.

Regrettably, no matter what President Obama accomplishes, the GOP will never give him any credit.  Republicans deserve “NONE” of the credit since they did nothing but criticize the President’s decision to help.  How the Republicans can deny it just reveals that they lack any degree of credibility. The Republicans denied President Obama’s role in Osama’s bin Laden’s death and they denied President Obama’s “3 shots 3 kills” contributed to the decline in Somali pirating. His foreign policy record is too good to be acknowledged.
