I just received the following text message on my cell phone:

878787

Failed stimulus & Bailout. Increased unemployment. Foreclosures. More govt spending? Want a new direction? Vote Nov 2nd 4 Roy Blunt. Txt STOP 2 Quit VHLP 4 Help

10/24/2010 3:14:23 PM

If this is from the Roy Blunt (r-lobbyists) campaign I’m seriously pissed. If it isn’t I’m seriously pissed. I don’t have a text plan for my cell phone. I very rarely text anyone. I have to pay for this shit. Assholes. And I didn’t sign up for it either.

As for the content of the text message? Here’s the true story:

…Reality: While many people conflate the “stimulus” with the bank bailouts, the bank bailouts were requested by President Bush and his Treasury Secretary, former Goldman Sachs CEO Henry Paulson. (Paulson also wanted the bailouts to be “non-reviewable by any court or any agency.”) The bailouts passed and began before the 2008 election of President Obama.

Uh, wasn’t Roy Blunt instrumental in getting the bailout passed? Uh, yep.

Reality: The stimulus worked, but was not enough. In fact, according to the Congressional Budget Office, the stimulus raised employment by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million jobs.

And that spending stuff?:

Reality: Bush’s last budget had a $1.416 trillion deficit. Obama’s first budget reduced that to $1.29 trillion.

So, Roy Blunt’s (r-lobbyists) “new direction” is back to the way that got us into this mess in the first place. Idiots.

That Theodore Roosevel, IV:?

Theodore Roosevelt IV Opts Out of G.O.P. Race for Senate

By DAVID M. HALBFINGER

Published: November 24, 2009

Few people knew that he was thinking about it in the first place, but Theodore Roosevelt IV, a wealthy investment banker with serious credentials on environmental issues and in foreign policy – and of course, that famous name – now says he will not seek the Republican nomination for the Senate from New York in 2010.

Mr. Roosevelt, the great-grandson of the 26th president, worked at Lehman Brothers and is now a managing director at Barclays Capital. He said he began studying a run against Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand, a Democrat, over the summer and was encouraged by talks with Republicans including former Gov. George E. Pataki, Representative Cynthia M. Lummis of Wyoming and Senator John Cornyn of Texas, the chairman of the party’s senatorial campaign committee.

Calling himself a “liberal Republican,” Mr. Roosevelt, 66, a former chairman of the League of Conservation Voters who lives in Brooklyn Heights, spoke harshly on Tuesday about the party’s conservative national leadership and lamented that the state Republican organization was a “series of fiefdoms,” though he said he was confident that he could have won the nomination…

Uh, yep.

121st Legislative District, Courtney Cole, Dave hageman, Denny Hoskins, HRCC, missouri, Robert Knodell, Victory Enterprises, Warrensburg, Wayne Yocum

Don’t Panic.

At today’s UCM homecoming parade in Warrensburg incumbent Denny Hoskins (r-noun, verb, CPA), who is locked in a tight campaign for the 121st Legislative District seat with challenger Courtney Cole (D), was accompanied in his stroll through the parade route by three individuals –  Robert Knodell, Executive Director of the House Republican Campaign Committee (HRCC); Dave Hageman, Missouri Executive Director of Victory Enterprises; and Wayne Yocum, Senior Consultant – Missouri for Victory Enterprises.

Update – photo:

Dave Hageman, Missouri Executive Director of Victory Enterprises (left) and

Robert Knodell, Executive Director of the House Republican Campaign Committee (right)

Ah, we see, the 121st Legislative District race is becoming the nexus for the republican campaign consultant industrial complex and wingnut welfare.

We’ve already seen the HRCC’s largesse:

Detailed Summary of Expenditures And Contributions Made

Committe: HOUSE REPUBLICAN CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE INC

ReportDate: 10/12/2010

B. ITEMIZED EXPENDITURES ALL OVER $100 AND ALL PAYMENTS TO CAMPAIGN WORKERS

Victory Enterprises Davenport, IA 09/27/2010 IE Media Buy-Hoskins $10,464.00

Victory Enterprises Davenport, IA 09/27/2010 IE Radio Buy-Hoskins $8,976.38

So, were they checking on everyone’s investment or are they panicking? Just asking.

Missouri Secretary of State (and U.S. Senate candidate) Robin Carnahan (D) stopped in Warrensburg this afternoon to visit with voters at the UCM homecoming football game. This was the third of four campaign stops for the day – spanning the state from east to west.

Arriving at UCM’s stadium.

The campaign bus arrived at the stadium at approximately 3:15 p.m., trailed by a car with a reporter and a photographer for the New York Times (as I understood it – I was shooting photographs and the Times folks weren’t engaging me in small talk).

Foreground, left to right, former State Representative Deleta Williams (D), Secretary of State Robin Carnahan,

Juan Carlos Antolinez, Robin Carnahan’s spouse.

Two campaign staffers (right) accompany the group to the stadium entrance.

Juan Carlos Antolinez and Robin Carnahan share a conversation with a student worker in the stadium elevator.

Robin Carnahan spent about an hour at the stadium visiting with folks attending the game. A staffer politely reminded everyone that it was time to leave for the next stop and the traveling party walked back to their campaign bus for the final leg of the trip to Kansas City.

At this stage of any campaign it’s one thing after another at breakneck speed.

Nice day for a parade…

121st Legislative District, 4th Congressional District, Courtney Cole, Denny Hoskins, homecoming parade, Ike Skelton, missouri, UCM, Vicky Hartzler

The University of Central Missouri homecoming parade took place this morning in Warrensburg. As usual, during an election year, there were a significant number of candidates and their supporters in the parade.

Courtney Cole, the Democratic candidate in the 121st Legislative District at the early morning parade lineup.

Blunt (r-lobbyists) supporters at the parade lineup.

Two freight trains came through town on the parade route – slowing the progress of the parade down while everyone waited for them to pass.

Courtney Cole (D), working the parade crowd.

Denny Hoskins (r – noun, verb, CPA) waving to the crowd and getting a mixed response.

Congressman Ike Skelton (D).

Vicky Hartzler (r), the republican challenger in the 4th Congressional District. She said, “I hope I didn’t break your camera.” I kid you not.

The republican candidates didn’t work the crowd (shaking hands and talking to folks). Some of the Democratic candidates did, others just waved to the crowd.

Bill Clinton, Kansas City Star, missouri, stenographer, Steve Kraske

Heads or tails? In the universe of political stenography all stupid ideas or concepts have the same value as anything else.

Seriously?:

KRASKE: Where’s Bill Clinton? Why is Robin Carnahan so alone? Just talking with myself…

….Get this: Clinton, who now ranks as one of the country’s most popular political figures (who would have guessed that a decade ago?)….

[emphasis added]

I’ll answer that. Anyone who can read:

Presidential Approval Ratings — Bill Clinton

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Bill Clinton is handling his job as president?

2000

00 Dec 15-17

Approve – 66%

Disapprove – 32%

00 Dec 2-4

Approve – 60%

Disapprove – 35%

No Opinion – 5%

00 Nov 13-15

Approve – 63%

Disapprove – 33%

No Opinion – 4%

00 Oct 25-28

Approve – 57%

Disapprove – 38%

No Opinion – 5%

Or:

NBC  News/Wall Street Journal Poll conducted by the polling organizations of Peter Hart (D) and Bill McInturff (R)….

“Now I’m going to read you the names of several public figures, and I’d like you to rate your feelings toward each one as either very positive, somewhat positive, neutral, somewhat negative, or very negative. If you don’t know the name, please just say so. Bill Clinton.”

10/13-15/00 RV

Very Positive – 25%

Somewhat Positive – 26%

Neutral – 10%

Somewhat Negative – 11%

Very Negative – 28%

Not sure –

Heh. That 28% has got to be that nascent Faux News Channel watching teabagger core.

Gallup  Poll…

“Next, we’d like to get your overall opinion of some people in the news. As I read each name, please say if you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of these people — or if you have never heard of them. How about Bill Clinton?”

11/13-15/00

Favorable – 57%

Unfavorable – 41%

Unsure – 2%

10/25-28/00

Favorable – 54%

CNN/Time  Poll conducted by Yankelovich Partners

“Next, I’m going to read you the names of some people in the news today. Please tell me whether you have generally favorable or generally unfavorable impressions of each, or whether you are not familiar enough to say one way or another. Bill Clinton.”

10/25-26/00

Favorable – 57%

Unfavorable – 38%

Not Familiar – 2%

Not Sure – 3%

“…who would have guessed that a decade ago?…”

Having a memory helps, too. If you weren’t a stenographer you’d get the picture.

Flip you for the narrative…

Oh, really? So much for the coventional wisdom…

NEWSWEEK Poll: Obama Approval Rating Jumps, Democrats Close ‘Enthusiasm Gap’

As the president’s numbers climb sharply, results suggest that Democrats may be succeeding in firing up their base.

Despite doom-saying about Democrats’ chances in the midterms, the latest NEWSWEEK Poll…shows that they remain in a close race with Republicans 12 days before Election Day, while the president’s approval ratings have climbed sharply…

Some of the numbers:

I grew up right here in Platte County. In fact, I’ve probably met many of you face to face. We’ve talked about the issues that are important to you and I listened.

I know how we can create new jobs in Platte County. I will balance Missouri’s budget. And I will fight to keep taxes low for small businesses.
