At this stage in an election year we spend a considerable amount of time looking through campaign finance reports (when they’re available). This morning we spied this little gem:

CONTRIBUTION OF MORE THAN $5,000.00 RECEIVED BY ANY COMMITTEE FROM ANY SINGLE DONOR – TO BE FILED WITHIN 48 HOURS OF RECEIVING THE CONTRIBUTION

C091145 FRIENDS OF PETER KINDER [pdf]10/11/2010

Innovation Homes, LLC

Springfield, MO

10/9/2010

$10,000.00

[emphasis added]

Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder (r) who isn’t running for office this cycle and who uses Twitter more than most junior high school girls, but with less substance? The one who “retweeted” this?:

Oh yeah RT @Ben_Howe: #imagine liberals understanding that Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot & Mao were leftists. #tcot #TeaParty #pdk     7:56 PM Oct 9th  via ĂśberTwitter

(A hat tip to our good friends at Fired Up who used the awesome title – “Because Dems Aren’t All That Different Than Mussolini and Hitler. Or Something.”)

So, you’d expect the folks that cut a check for $10,000.00 to the committee of a republican politician who isn’t running for office in the current election cycle might have a decent idea of said politician’s views about the opposition party, right? Maybe, maybe not. Let’s take a look at past contributions via the Missouri Ethics Commission:

Detailed Summary of Contributions And Loans Received

Committee: JAY NIXON FOR MISSOURI

Report Date: 04/16/2007

Innovation Homes LLC Springfield, MO 3/28/2007 $10,000.00

[emphasis added]

Okay. I bet the folks that cut that $10,000.00 check don’t think that Governor Jay Nixon (D) promotes that lefty/dictator equivalence thing.

But, wait, there’s more:

Detailed Summary of Contributions And Loans Received

Committee: MISSOURIANS FOR MATT BLUNT INC

Report Date: 4/14/2008

Innovation Homes LLC Springfield, MO 9/28/2007 $1,275.00

[emphasis added]

That’s certainly a significant difference. Of confidence, maybe? Does anyone think Matt Blunt (r) promotes that lefty/dictator equivalence thing? We could probably guess.

I wonder which way they think the wind is blowing.
