Right-wing billionaire Rex Sinquefield has bankrolled a petition for the November 2010 ballot that is designed to eliminate the city earnings tax. St. Louis and Kansas City depend upon the city earnings tax to generate about 40% of city revenue, so losing that revenue would lead to drastic cuts in city services, including police and fire protection. Guests Chris Molitor, president for Firefighters Local 73, Mike Guzy of the St. Louis Sheriff’s office, and Martin Rafanan of Gateway Homeless Services explain why eliminating the earnings tax would be devastating, not only for our major cities, but for the economy of the entire state.
