Dennis Wood (R-Kimberling City) resigned on Wednesday after being appointed Stone County presiding commissioner by Jay Nixon. Without checking, it’s best to assume that the 62nd District is very very Republican due to the high percentages won by McCain and Dennis Wood, along with the possibility that Kenny Hulshof won a majority of votes out of this district. Fortunately for Democrats in the 62nd, they have had a candidate in all four of Wood’s elections, winning between 26.88% and 32.63% of the vote.
There’s almost a 50/50 split between Stone and Taney Counties in the district (with 1366 more voters in Stone County), so it should be interesting to see which county prevails in the Republican committee nomination.
Why would the Governor appoint a termed out State Rep to a county commission seat instead of appointing a Democrat to the seat who could possibly win a re-election and eventually move up to run for State Rep? It might be time to start asking if Jay really is a Democrat?
