I’m a little upset by the process for selecting a new nominee for state senator. I understand that there’s not really enough time to schedule a proper primary and general election before the legislative session, but there’s still room for public input in the process. In an ideal world, each ward responsible for selecting the nominee would hold a public forum where interested citizens could question each candidate and hear their responses. I realize that committeepeople are the only constituency that legally matters in this case, but it would be nice if the person who will eventually be our senator could have the opportunity to interact with people across the district in a way that holds them accountable in the future.
