Looks like Roy Blunt has just admitted that we can’t expect to see a health care plan from his task force:

Republicans who had promised last month to offer a healthcare reform alternative are now suggesting no such bill will be introduced.

Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said, “Our bill is never going to get to the floor, so why confuse the focus? We clearly have principles; we could have language, but why start diverting attention from this really bad piece of work they’ve got to whatever we’re offering right now?”

Just as amazing – Republicans prefer to go on vacation, rather than actually work on the health care bill in Washington.

“I’d rather go debate at home and see our members carry the message there, and frankly I’d like to see the Democrats go home and get pounded on,” said Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), the former head of the House GOP campaign arm.

The Republicans have no alternative bill and no desire to remain in Washington. What the hell are they doing in elected office? Why should anyone trust Roy Blunt with the office of Senator? After 8 years serving in the majority, and now 2 more years in the minority, Roy Blunt and his fellow Republicans still have no answer on health care reform other than a slim slogan filled 4 page document devoid of numbers. Pathetic.

UPDATE: I see that Fired Up saw the same Hill article. To be clear, this is all about Republican “Waterloo” strategy and has nothing to do with improving affordability and access to quality health care. Roy Blunt has promised for months that his plan would be much more detailed than any Democratic plan, and in a blatantly political aboutface, has suddenly decided that offering an alternative plan would allow him to be criticized, so he’d rather continue heckling from the peanut gallery.
