Other than that.. Zweifel is Treasurer, Koster is Attorney General (despite losing Cass county), and Republicans now have a 23-11 majority in the state senate.
Yes, you read that right, on a night when Jay Nixon was winning most of the entire state and Obama came within 6000 votes of winning Missouri.. we lost three State Senate seats (SD1, SD19, SD31). BLAH. We’ll get back to that topic sometime later this week.
Also, we have a shiny Presidential map.
In the top 15 counties, Obama won 55/44 (up from 51/48 Kerry in 04). In the rest of the state, McCain won 61/37 (Bush won 64/36 in those areas in 2004)
Hey, at least Iron County didn’t let us down.
I want to say that the Secretary of State’s map of the Governor’s race is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! All that blue!
But then I want to know what happened with Jackson County in the Presidential race. Seriously. What’s the deal there?
Third, I agree that overall it wasn’t a good night in Missouri. So despite my elation at the Obama victory and the Nixon victory, I’m feeling a bit depressed today.
Finally – how many provisional ballots remain uncounted? Anybody know?

We can probably write off the counties that voted for Mitch Hubbard for now.
And…
The most Republican county in the state (Barton County) voted for Jeff Parnell over Ike Skelton. Parnell won Dade County by 6 votes over Ike. Ike, as expected, kicked ass in all the other counties which were smart enough to pick a great Congressman over a dude named Jeff Parnell.
Also, no word on which county wins the trophy for ticket splitting.

My wife is from Iron County, and we spend many a holiday there. We were right outside Grant Park last night, and while I had mixed feelings of elation over Barack’s win combined with disappointment in my home county (Clay, MO) not helping out, I took pride in that little Iron County (older, whiter, more rural) standing up for Obama.
I have been jumping up and down and banging the table and hollering at the top of my lungs trying to get the MDP to get back in the game in the northern tier, but they act like it would be a bother or something.
The Sixth is flippable if they would get their shit together and actually compete up there and put in a showing outside St. Joe.
But what the hell do I know? It only takes two hands to count the generations of my family who have been involved in Democratic politics in that part of the state. I had ancestors who were Democrats in that area when the damned state came into being, and I can tell them first hand, the folks up there will vote for Democrats – they used to on a regular basis – but damn, you gotta ask ’em to!
This election turned on the KC suburbs – Clay County and suburban Jackson County. Another problem was that turnout was actually higher in the suburbs than the cities – about ten points higher in St. Charles, Platte, and Clay than in STL, KC, and Jackson.
