In the lull created by a black hole of news on most fronts and impending finance reports (some Quarterlies showed up, and the rest will be in soon with a beer keg and ping-pong table).
So… let’s take another look into the series of “Money, and where it goes” (aka “Citing 30 day after reports now might be like eating Chinese food 5 days after you ordered it”)
First, lets start off with Bill Burlison, former Congressman who is running against Billy Pat Wright. Bill has raised $20,553 and spent $18,307. Which is more than I expected, actually (No word on how much money is needed to win an election in the 159th).
Bill Burlison’s money has gone off to pay for yard signs and lists of registered voters.
So on to some more notes on money for the state house..
Inside: Scott Largent (R), Harry Wyse (D), Mike Lair (R), Mike Waltemath (D), Jim Guest (R), Wayne Bledsoe (D), Dan Brown (R), Ronnie Herman (D), Sue Allen (R), Chris Kelly (D), Ed Robb (R), David Moen (D), Therese Sander (R), Gail Brown (D), Rob Schaaf (R), Mark Sheehan (D), Mike McGhee (R), Beth Grubb (D), Juan Alonzo (D), Chris Molendorp (R), Charles Dake (D), Nick Beatty (D), Eric Burlison (R), Michael Winder (D), and Shirley Keeney (R)
“Mr. Largent, some men with a large check are at the door”
The Committee of Concerned Citizens gave Scott Largent a check for $7500 recently. Although there haven’t been a huge flurry of giant checks to state house candidates. Yet. Denny “CPA” Hoskins did get a giant check from a CPA group, in the biggest display of CPA political power since around 1974.
Harry Wyse has raised $17462 and spent $12,710.89 in his candidacy in the open 7th district. His money has been spent on supplies and radio ads (KMZU the Farm). His opponent Mike Lair has raised $60,398.18 and spent $21,069.09. Including a newspaper ad ($168.25) and a website ($150).
Mike Waltemath has already filed his quarterly report. When I last mentioned the Waltemath campaign, it didn’t really have much money at all. But Waltemath’s totals are now $8343.42 raised and $2256.67 spent. Waltemath raised $3556.35 in the reporting period. He recieved checks from numerous committess representing House Democratic incumbents. Waltemath spent his money on printing and ads. Waltemath’s opponent, Jim Guest, has no October report up yet.
Also, Wayne Bledsoe has his October report in already. $25,415.04 raised so far, $8,832.53 spent. $9K raised in the reporting period. On checking his spending, i’m pretty sure there’s a good reason for the “market hog” and “helium tank rental” rental. But, those expenditures probably don’t appear too often in reports. Bledsoe’s opponent, Danny “Dan” Brown only has an old 30 After report with $27,898.88 raised and $12,911.59 spent so far.
Ronica Herman’s Quarterly is also in, and it shows that she has raised $3490 so far and spent $2003.30. Sue Allen’s bill for a consultant is almost as much as Ronnie Herman’s expenditures so far.
Chris Kelly’s October quarterly came in on Friday and Kelly has raised $170,148.08 so far ($40K in the reporting period) and spent $130,802.64 so far. Ed Robb’s October isn’t in, but he did get a giant check on October 1st.
Assorted 30 After Money totals (please consult the 9th Amendment and apply it accordingly in regards to the candidates chosen here)

And now.. “following Paul LeVota’s contributions”:
Paul LeVota gave $400 on September 13th, 2008 to the following candidates: Barbara Lanning, Rebecca McClanahan, Tom Shively, Ed Schieffer, Terry Stone, and Jill Schupp. He followed that up with $400 for Mark Sheehan and Kenny Biermann on September 23rd. Then he gave Beth Grubb $500 (or maybe $1000, it’s fuzzy) on September 26th. Followed by more money for Deb Lavender ($400 on Sep. 30th), Vicki Englund ($400 on Sep. 30th) and Mike Waltemath ($400 on Sep. 30th).
Also, LeVota gave $5K to the HDCC on the 29th of September.
One concluding news story: Dan Mehan, head of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce & Industry, pegs the likely Democratic gain at four to six House seats or “if lightning strikes, eight.”. So in other words, bet on the over.
