May we do our utmost to prevent something like this from happening here or elsewhere in the world ever again.

UPDATE: As I receive words from state politicians, I’ll add them below the fold. And as always, feel free to add your thoughts in comments.

Kay Barnes:

Seven years ago today, our nation was attacked.

Fundamentalist Islamic terrorists chose to take thousands of innocent lives.

But in the midst of this tragedy, our nation became one.

Our first responders – police, firefighters, service men and women, and volunteers – showed great courage and resolve. Our elected officials, at all levels, worked to protect their communities. Our people rejected the fear and paralysis that our enemies attempted to inflict on us.

Today, we remember, and we honor, those who lost their lives and those who showed great courage. And again, we come together, as one nation.

As Americans, we must stand together with resolve to do everything in our power to ensure that a terrible tragedy such as this never happens again

To the world, and especially to those we lost: We shall never forget.

God bless you, and God bless America.
