McCain gave a speech worse than some of the ordinary folks that both parties gave a chance to speak in their respective conventions. Was this his way of trying to prove he’s an outsider?

but I wasn’t his target audience. I feel that his target audience probably drifted away, though. Especially those who had a few beers while watching football first.
The green background was horrible – the blue wasn’t much better.
Of course I didn’t hear any commenter say anything other than that it was a fine speech, so what do I know?

the whole convention was really dissonant. On one hand they are going to change Washington–but they will do it by perpetuating the same Bush policies; McCain tries to capitalize on his “maverick” image to imply openness to the concerns of independents, but Palin’s conservative spleen overpowers any other message.
How are they going to sell such a confused message? The only consistent tack I can perceive is a class-based message that hinges on resentment of elites to the exclusion of other considerations.
