Volunteers for Obama gather on a Friday night at the Johnson County Democratic Headquarters in Warrensburg, Missouri.
The Obama campaign in Missouri facilitates grassroots organizing. One such gathering started at 7:00 p.m. this evening at the Johnson County Democratic headquarters in Warrensburg, Missouri. A diverse group of about a dozen people showed up on a Friday night to plan voter registration and door to door activities on behalf of Barack Obama.
Warrensburg, Missouri, a town of approximately fifteen thousand, is the home of the University of Central Missouri (approximately 12,000 students) and in close proximity to Whiteman Air Force Base, home of the B-2 bomber. As a consequence of those populations, and because of other factors, there is a transient nature to the population of Johnson County. Some estimates of voter turnover in the county over a two year period range around 33%. Voter registration drives then becomes one priority up until October 8, 2008, the last day to register to vote before the general election in the State of Missouri.
Thus, the importance of registering voters…
it seems like there is campaign presence down there (no office, but a presence). So that’s sounds good.
But yes, registering voters (and getting students registered somewhere else in Missouri/elsewhere to vote too).
It’ll probably beat the voter registration I did once or twice lately in my KC burb, where the registration rate is probably a lot better.
