Somebody, somewhere, please make it stop.

In a post today (note: link below) on the Post-Dispatch’s blog “DC Download,” the P-D’s Washington Bureau Chief Bill Lambrecht mentioned the Obama campaign’s decision to accept the nomination at Denver’s INVESCO Field at Mile High.  And guess what?  It’s bad news for Democrats, of course!

Now why, you ask, would being such an exciting candidate and good speaker that you can attract 75,000 people to your speech be bad news for the Democrats?  Let Lambrecht count the ways:

Left unsaid was the huge logistics headache it could bestow on the Secret Service, which has the task of assuring the safety of the new Democratic nominee.

Right.  The poor secret service agents have to do a job they are paid for.  Very sad.  And then there’s this:

Security for the night could be a nightmare for Democratic Party loyalists who will have to share Obama’s shining moment with tens of thousands of regular folks who show up to see history made.

Of course, we all know how much Democratic party loyalists hate having to hang out with “regular folks.”  Why, it might be almost as much as members of the DC media cocktail circuit hate to hang out with regular folks!

More below the flip. -Clark

I suppose you might think opening up the convention to 75,000 people is a good sign that Democrats actually want the event to be open to an inclusive audience.  How wrong you would be!  In fact, the true problem with the idea is that Democrats, as all regular folks know, are inherently elitist!  Don’t believe me?  Well, check this out:

The decision adds more risk for the Democrats, and there are signs already of more than a few loose ends – from cost overruns to caterers refusing to heed dictates about what Democrats can be fed, and even what color the food should be.

According to reports, the Democrats’ contracts with caterers stipulates that food must come in “at least three of the following five colors: red, green, yellow blue/purple and white.” Huh?

Organically grown and locally produce foods are mandated and fried foods are forbidden.

Lambrecht doesn’t come out and say it, but of course what “some reports” are really saying is that the DNC will only be serving granola bars and arugula at the convention (editors note: I don’t actually know what arugula is, but the DC media circuit tells me that this is what elitist Democrats eat).

And then there’s Lambrecht’s kicker:

Sounds to us that those Democrats could be mighty hungry by the time Obama starts his mile-high yacking.

Yup.  Because we common folks all know that organic and locally grown food tastes bad!  I mean, can you imagine how bad an organic tomato would taste?  Or a locally raised free-range chicken?  Us regular folks would never be able to eat that crap!

Thank goodness Lambrecht is spending so much time in Washington DC, because now he is finally beginning to see what us regular folks truly care about!

Note: this is the second time I’ve had trouble linking to one of Lambrecht’s posts.  I don’t understand it, I cut and paste the link just like I do every other article.  Anyway, you can find it by going to DC Download and scrolling down.  Lambrecht’s post was published 07-07-2008 at 12:52 pm.
