Guess the Republicans are intent on conceeding more of Jackson county to us, aren’t they?

The Story is here

Gov. Matt Blunt this week eliminated the state’s entire $500,000 contribution toward restoration of the Independence courthouse where Harry Truman got his start in politics.

Local officials working to save the building said Blunt’s action would delay work on the second phase of the project by at least a year and could significantly add to the project’s cost.

(..)

Blunt cut the funding Monday, the last day to approve the budget for the 2009 fiscal year. The courthouse funding was the only major deletion Blunt made from a bill funding $140 million in capital expenditures. His only other cut was $25,000 designated for design of a special needs sports complex in Kansas City.

So, Blunt cut only two things from the budget, both of which are from Jackson County, (where people “don’t want to live” in Matt Blunt’s POV)

What made the grade with Matt the Knife?

$2M for a “weather shelter over sports fields” at Missouri Southern

$3M for repairing the Governor’s mansion (no word on how much will be spent on modernizing the panic button system)

With Hulshof looking more like a Blunt puppet by the day, and Steelman being Steelman.. the question this November isn’t “How well will Republicans do in Jackson County”, the question is “Nixon by how much?”

So thanks a lot, Matt Blunt. I guess you had to live up to your legacy of kicking people in the teeth somehow.
