Thank you for taking time to join me on Show Me Progress this morning. I am really pleased that we have added this forum as part of our campaign, and welcome your questions and comments regarding our efforts in winning the House seat in the 67th district.
As Duckhunter mentioned, we have been out knocking the doors for quite some time, and we are being very well received at the door. I’m usually left a little speechless (which is highly unusual for me) when a resident answers the door and says, “Joan!”, as if they’ve been expecting me. Evidently the word is out, I’m really serious about winning this seat.
If you haven’t visted our campaign webpage yet, you can do so at http://www.joanlandmann2008.com.
So, with that said, I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
Thanks for coming by to answer questions! I’ll start it off.
What is that you want to deliver for your prospective constituents, and why will you be able to better deliver than your fellow candidates?
I’m also very concerned about the direction our state is going as far as using GLBT rights as a scapegoat issue. What is your stance on equality for GLBT citizens?
Hi Joan,
Do you have any idea what kind of dirt NARAL has on Stelzer. He must be anti-choice or they would not have endorsed anyone but you and maybe Colona. I know your campaign has a lot of support from NARAL members and your NARAL’s favorite, so I thought you would know the answer on Stelzer.
The constituents of this district, as well as many other Missourians, have taken some real hits under the current administration. I plan to work and fight to restore Medicare/Medicaid to the nearly 100,000 citizens who were cut in 2005. I would also work to fully fund and improve our public schools, so that ALL of Missouri’s children have access to quality education. And, I would also be a vocal advocate for a woman’s right to make her own reproductive choices.
We know that we will be working under a republican majority in the next session, and I plan to be the strong progressive voice to prevent any further damage. I also plan to work on under-represented issue that republican administration would otherwise ignore, such as our city environment, including other forms of transportation, and the arts.
I’m glad you brought up access to healthcare, Joan. As a subset of that issue, I’m very concerned about Missouri women’s access to family planning services. Any plans on how to deal with that problem?
I know you are an attorney- are you still practicing during the campaign?
the primary winner is the winner. So we need plenty of background on the Democratic field.
You sound like a progressive. Are your opponents not progressive or less progressive?
In addition, I’ve knocked on more doors than all of my opponents combined. I’m ready and willing to listen to ALL of my constituents, not just a certain base. This is a diverse political landscape, which is strongy tending towards progressive, and because I have talked to so many of the residents, I am more in touch with these issues, and those who are likely to raise them, than any of my opponents.
I really appreciate your participation today. I have enjoyed the opportunity to convey our message and talk about our efforts to win the seat in the 67th House district. I hope you like what you’ve heard. We will be checking back occasionally for additional questions or comments about our campaign and we will respond accordingly.
Please let us know if you would like to hear from us again on this forum. I enjoyed this, hope you did as well.
As everyone should know, Missouri public higher education has been significantly underfunded for five years.
What should be done?
