Wake Up Walmart has released its first video of 2008. Walmart is a key issue for progressives to focus on- because of their awful health care benefits, Missouri citizens are estimated to be paying $42,144,857 a year in taxes to cover poor Walmart employees and their families with health care- while Walmart is making huge profits.

I heard David Cook of UFCW, Local 658, speak briefly about Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago and I was literally sitting down to the computer to write about what he had to say when I saw this diary. In addition to what you pointed out, let me add some information he gave us.

Many local businesses contribute damaged or short dated food to food pantries, but Wal-Mart’s policy is to destroy such goods because it’s too much trouble to help out hungry people.
When Sony and Toshiba were fighting it out to see which DVD format would prevail in the retail market, Toshiba dropped out of the running because Wal-Mart announced that it would not carry Toshiba products. A corporation with that much power should be highly regulated for anti-trust violations.
