Too bad the KC Star could not put this next to David Broder’s column in yesterday’s paper.
The Dean was all in a tizzy because the Democratic-controlled Congress didn’t accomplish anything this year.
He has actually vetoed only a few times. Easier to arrogantly ignore a new law through unprecedented use of signing statements, than to veto it. Since taking office in 2001, President Bush has issued signing statements on more than 750 new laws, declaring that he has the power to set aside the laws when they conflict with his legal interpretation of the Constitution. No other president has even come close. Why haven’t the Dems done something about that?
