No surprises here – Claire made the perfunctory support for a timeline for withdrawal of forces as a condition of continued funding of George Bush’s Iraq debacle. Unfortunately she lacks the wherewithal to stand tough (as we saw in August when her vacation took precedence over the Fourth Amendment). When timelines failed, she folded like a cheap suit and voted for the funding anyway. Apparently she checked her WWKBD (What Would Kit Bond Do?)bracelet before casting her vote.
This unholy clusterf**k of a war in Iraq is the most pressing issue facing our nation today. It is the issue that put Democrats in the majority in both houses. What do these freshmen Democrats not understand about this? Why are so many of them acting like Republicans?
2012 is coming. Who is going to be the REAL DEMOCRAT, who knows what the hell real principles are and will vote accordingly, who will challenge her in the primary? I have had more than enough of the cowardice and fecklessness that this thin majority represents in spades.
We don’t just need more Democrats. We need better Democrats.
So I can tell her no again. I’ve told everyone I know not to give her a dime. I’ve convinced a lot of people. But it won’t matter, eventually all that lobbying money will fill her coffers.
The irony is that during the election I told many people in other states that one reason I liked Claire was that she was tough. I have no idea where that toughness went.
Sometimes when I’m driving down the highway and I see the Missouri Lottery sign I dream of what I’d do with the proceeds if I won (of course I’d have to buy a ticket to win, but it’s a nice fantasy anyway.) Since Claire has been elected, my fantasy is to use the funds to educate Democrats in Missouri about just how bad she’s been. It’s a nice fantasy – television time, newspaper ads, billboards. A full campaign against her until she either starts to vote like a real Democrat or it weakens her enought that another real Democrat decides to run.
I know that politicians vote their self interest. I just can’t figure out why she thinks this in in her self interest. And if I had the wherewithal I’d prove to her that it isn’t.
How does the Dem leadership think it is in their self-interest to look weak, unprincipled, and incompetent? It boggles the mind!
