Missouri is all about neighbors helping neighbors. Across our state, food banks and pantries have been hard at work preparing for an increase in need as the Democrat-led federal government shutdown continues.

Claudia and I encourage all Missourians who are able to support their local food banks as they prepare to help families and seniors who rely on SNAP benefits to put food on their tables. Every act of generosity makes a difference.

Governor Kehoe, you had an opportunity to deliver a message of hope and helping one another — but instead, you chose division. That’s reprehensible.
There is good on both sides of the aisle, if only we would take the time to speak and truly listen to one another. Working together should be the goal — not drawing deeper lines. Whether it’s through preserving ACA premium subsidies or finding common ground to protect SNAP benefits, our focus should be on helping people, not scoring political points.

Since our senators have a salary that is double that of their average constituents I assume they’ll be making large donations to food pantry’s right?

May be a good time to tap into the approx. 600 million in general revenue reserve funds. Some of us know what’s up and know where the money is. You can release the reserve funds. I can’t imagine anything that would be more critical than feeding your constituents.

Republicans have all the power they need to govern responsibly for the people; they just have to hold their own GOP coalition together.

The bar is so low: Most Missourians would be happy with affordable rent and groceries. A few cents off gas is an appreciated bonus. Republicans cannot clear even this low bar.

Governor Mike Kehoe I believe in neighbors helping neighbors too. I also belive that the state government works for the people of that state and that state government respects the will of its voters. You havent demonstrated your willingness to do either.

I also believe in helping neighbors, especially the elderly kittle old ladies in my area that have no one to give them a hand when SNAP gets shut down. Thing is, I have to tighten my budget and cut back on what my kids have do that others can eat when they should be getting help from the state.

BACK to blue. It was blue up until about 25 years ago. And, I can’t wait, either. Pre-MAGAs made everyone one-issue voters fearing gays and abortion. So, the rural folks started voting against their better interests. Then, the GOP started stealing their family farms.

Missourians are starting to turn blue now since the rich and large corporations started to struggled us while Republican politicians are holding us down.

I’ll translate “we’re arguing about how to spend your tax instead compromising so we need you to use your already taxed income to provide for the poor people we already complain about helping”. Sure! I bet donations will be pouring in!

Deflect and blame in attempt to divide. Forget party and remember real people. Innocent children, and the mothers that are opening an empty pantry. The father that is trying his best but prices are running faster than the money coming in from the paycheck. And God forbid anyone in their house have illness or disability. I do not use these services, but care about loving my neighbors. Mr. Kehoe, please search for goodness. The majority of Americans are tired…tired of this constant upheaval. Your job is to calm the waters, not stir them up. Find solutions with the power you do have. Prayers for resolve, peace, and the end of the divisive rhetoric.

If an American citizen in need for food can’t be helped because men and women are to stubborn to agree to solve issues then Washington is failing us. I appreciate the call to help local food banks, Governor, that’s a good thing. But I really hope the state takes a hard look at stepping in to cover SNAP for a month or two if this keeps dragging on.
From what I’ve read, Missouri puts out somewhere around $130 to $175 million a month in SNAP benefits, and we’ve still got roughly $600 to $700 million in unobligated reserves. According to a comment from the state’s budget director this past summer, Missouri’s unobligated general revenue reserves are about in that range.
If the state fronted it, there’s a 99 percent chance we’d get reimbursed once the federal government reopens. It seems like it would be a good step forward and a way to help families through a tough time.
That is, we’d be using a fraction of what’s in reserve to keep people from going hungry through no fault of their own. Seems like the right thing to do for Missouri families right now.

Gov Kehoe you got it wrong again… there are more pressures being put on the people of Missouri and this can be traced to Trumps economic policies especially tariffs! Soon farms will be closing down due to bankruptcies and the fact that their markets are being shut down as China the overwhelming purchaser of soybeans is looking elsewhere for this commodity. The future looks bleak for independent farmers! Tariffs are making everything more expensive; cars, electronics, and many more raw materials like lumber and steel produced abroad and imported to USA will be taxed and in the end citizens of Missouri will be paying the costs of this reckless policy. You should be concerned that if the ACA is not funded that hundreds of thousands of Missourians will be unable to afford premiums for their basic healthcare , people will suffer and a wholesale decline in medical care will result! Rural/ regional hospitals are closing at unprecedented levels and in order to get care people will have to travel hours to get services! Say a prayer for us but be better than that support the ACA and resist against bad policy decisions being made by our national leadership!
