2016, Hillary Clinton, marriage equality, president

A video released today from Hillary Clinton’s (D) presidential campaign:

Hillary Clinton (D): The story of America is a story of hard fought, hard won progress. And it continues today.

Groom: I can’t believe we’re here.

Hillary Clinton (D): New chapters are being written by men and women who believe that all of us, not just some, but all should have the chance to live up to our God given potential.

Groom: The reason I can’t believe it is because…

Hillary Clinton (D): This progress was not easily won. People fought and organized and campaigned in public squares and private spaces to change not only laws, but hearts and minds.

Groom: I remember all of the thoughts that ran through my head when I started to realize that I was gay. Why me? What am I gonna do? Will anyone love me? I’ll never get married. That’s the one that really hurt. I’ll never get married.

Hillary Clinton (D): And thanks to that work of generations for millions of individuals barriers that once prevented people from enjoying the full measure of liberty…

Groom: I felt sad.

Hillary Clinton (D): …the full experience of dignity…

Groom: I felt alone.

Hillary Clinton (D): …and the full benefits of humanity have fallen away.

Groom: I’ll never feel alone. I love you.

[….]

Hillary Clinton (D): Some have suggested that gay rights and human rights are separate and distinct. But in fact they are one and the same. Being LGBT does not make you less human. And that is why gay rights are human rights and human rights are gay rights.

[Stand with LGBT families]

[paid for by Hillary for America].

Yesterday at the Missouri Ethics Commission for one of the declared 2016 republican gubernatorial candidates:

[emphasis added]

As far as we can tell there’s no ideological daylight between any of the 2016 republican candidates for governor (declared or exploratory).

In this instance is it a matter of senatorial friendship?

White House Petition: the other novel

Ayn Rand, John Rogers, orcs, Petition, White House

Ephemera 2009 (7)

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

A White House petition:

We petition the Obama Administration to:

place Ayn Rand on the ten dollar bill.

Ayn Rand is the perfect candidate for the woman on the ten dollar bill.

1. An immigrant who fled oppression

2. Success story in literature, philosophy, and Hollywood- a true rags to riches story. She embodies the American dream

3. Authored the most read book by an American author

4. Has influenced more people than any other woman in American history male or female.

If she isn’t in the running to be on the ten then no other woman should be on that list.

Published Date: Jun 19, 2015

Issues: Economy, Government Reform, Women’s Issues

Signatures needed by July 19, 2015 to reach goal of 100,000 98,754

Total signatures on this petition 1,246

[emphasis added]

Well, now we know that approximately 1,246 bookish fourteen year olds paid for admission to a movie theater just to watch food-court baked potatoes on the big screen.

Branson, Confederate battle flag

The last time I was in Branson, several years ago, it was impossible not to see the flag of insurrection in front of a lot of souvenir shops.

Does anyone know that is still the case?

Are they coming down?

Is there any discussion by the Branson Chamber of Commerce to limit the public display of the flag?

These are real questions.  Do you know the answer?
