the discussion.
I know it is unfair to compare any transit system to the system in DC, because no other city is funded like DC is, but I have to say that this past weekend reminded me of how wonderful it is to live there, at least as far as public transit goes. When I first lived there in the late 1970’s the Red Line only went as far as DuPont Circle and they were in the midst of blasting to take it further out into Maryland. Now it is finished and the area around Tenley Circle (which would have been my Metro Stop if it had existed when I lived there) is much better – much more to do and much more exciting. I’d really love to see that happen in the Midwest.
Expanding the abilities of public transportation in a large city or even statewide would be nice. Although some logistics would still need to be worked out to make it viable.
Having a light rail-esque transportation from a suburb towards an area like P&L would be helpful, although i’m not betting on that sort of thing happening.
The surplus of problems kind of hobbles stuff like light rail, with the need for decreasing unemployment, education, and etc.
