Readers of this blog are likely familiar with the race in MO-6 between Sam Graves and Kay Barnes. A few weeks ago, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced that Kay would be a part of their “red-to-blue” program, which funnels donors and campaign cash to Democratic challengers. This decision will likely be quite a boost to Barnes’s already impressive campaign. Barnes has already raised more money–and has more name recognition–than any of Sam Graves’s previous Democratic challengers.
Now, word from CQ is that Graves’s campaign is one of the ten flagged for assistance by the NRCC this election cycle. This isn’t the first time Graves has had to ask his DC friends for help in his campaign. Last year, he had to hire a fancy DC-based fundraiser because, I suppose, his usual fundraiser couldn’t get the job done. He’s already had Dick and Dubya in town for fundraisers. Minority Leader John Boehner came in for a fundraiser. And now the NRCC will be lending a hand.
This is a great sign for the Barnes campaign, but as you can imagine they still need a lot of help. If you want to make a contribution, you can do so at my Barnes Act Blue page, or at the campaign’s website. It’s not too early to kick of the 2Q fundraising!
Someone asked me about the Graves/Barnes race the other day and asked me how progressive Barnes is. I said I had no idea.
Of course any Democrat is preferable to a Republican but I’d really like to know more about Barnes’ progressive credentials.
So I looked through the various posts here at ShowMeProgress that have been posted on this race and what I found was … to the extent there was specific information about a candidate in this race it always seemed to be about Graves. And all the reasons why he needs to be defeated.
So when you say:
I’d say, not really. There’s lots of room for more information about why we should specifically support Kay Barnes even if Graves didn’t exist.
This ISN’T a criticism of your post. Just an observation about the race in general.
