Last week we bought a new ceiling fan to replace the thirty-one year old relic in our living room. We purchased it from the “good” national home improvement chain store in our town. Since the fan is on a 12-foot ceiling we also paid to have the fan installed. We made arrangements to have it installed on Tuesday, Election Day.
This morning we received a text from the installer, a contract worker for the chain store, asking if we were available today to have the fan installed. We were. He arrived about fifteen minutes later.
After he entered the living room with his tools and ladder he mentioned our yard signs (“NO” on Amendment 3, “YES” on Amendment 6, Taigan Plummer in the 54th Legislative District, Quinton Wilson for State Auditor, Jordan Herrera in the 4th Congressional District). He said it was nice to see them.
Over the course of the hour and a half he worked on installing the fan we talked about the world and current events. He was concerned about the rampant corruption of the current administration. He didn’t think much of Mark Alford (r). He was unhappy with the right wingnut initiated ballot amendments (Amendment 3, Amendment 7, Amendment 8, Proposition A). He stated that he was fiscally conservative, but socially not. He was unhappy with the grotesque right wingnut attacks on minority groups of all kinds. He was very unhappy about the targeting of immigrant communities and workers.
We talked about family, careers, jobs, and work.
This person was a craftsman and did impeccable work.
Oh, and he has already voted.
