It’s not so much that Donald Trump (and those around him) blatantly lies much of the time. It’s that they believe most of us are stupid enough to believe him in the face of the overwhelming evidence otherwise. And that they believe they’ll easily get away with it.
The frightening part is that they’re quite possible correct in their assumptions.

Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both.
Oh well, another Article of Impeachment.
