Senator Claire McCaskill (D) responded this morning via Twitter to Donald Trump’s (r) continuing dismissal of the U.S. intelligence community.
Claire McCaskill @clairecmc
Intelligence community is the FIRSTLINE in our war against terror. The disrespect shown them by Trump is stunning. They’re the best in world.

Following Donald Trump’s lead into the abyss is risky and reckless. Remember that.

If McCaskill’s so worked up about Trump’s dismissive ways when it comes to intelligence community’s findings, she ought to be taking its findings seriously enough to be callling high and loud for an independent, bipartisan select committee investigation. But, after all, it’s our Claire, the woman who never raises her voice until it’s safe to do sol.

Honestly I raise my voice constantly and many many times when it is not “safe” to do so. I’m from Missouri where Trump won by 19 and I have not hesitated to be critical of his decisions and rhetoric during his transition. Stay tuned….

I will certainly stay tuned – and hopeful – though I’ve missed your voice calling for an independent investigation of dangerous Russian interference in election – if you did so, I’d welcome a citation and will gladly offer apologies – in a blog post yet so it gets more attention from readers.
Russian influence in the election is a big issue and cannot be swept under the rug – President Trump’s bizarre denials suggest serious problems of complicity that could compromise foreign policy.
Another opportunity to hear your voice is also coming up, though – I am reading that hearings on the disastrous and frightening candidate for AG, Jeff Sessions, may begin next week. Because we need your loudest voice, I’m indeed staying tuned …

Actually, from Politico today:
“Democrats — and Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham — repeatedly criticized Trump’s “disparagement” and “trashing” of the intelligence community. Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill accused the president-elect of putting WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, whose site released many of the most damaging hacked Democratic emails, ‘on a pedestal,’ adding: ‘I think it should bring about a hue and cry. … No matter whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, there should be howls. And mark my word: If the roles were reversed, there would be howls from the Republican side of the aisle.'”
My apologies. And although I’m sure getting credit on SMP is the least of your concerns, I’ll put this in a longer post later today.
Good on ya’
