I sent this to Cardinals Executive Office (700 Clark St., St. Louis 63102 if you want to weigh in.) Albert Pujols should remember that “Pride goeth before the fall.”

My husband and I have been Cardinals fans since we met in 1997. In fact, it was our mutual love of Cardinals baseball that brought us together. Tonight our house is silent and we’re in shock.
Maybe the news about Albert Pujols and Tony LaRussa’s endorsement of Glenn Beck’s vile political diatribes hit me hard because I’d just come home from canvassing for Robin Carnahan where I’d met one of the American Taliban “pro-lifers.” A man about half my age, a man who will never carry a baby, told me that, if his daughter is raped, “even by a black man,” he’d make her carry the fetus to full term and keep the child — because it’s “God’s will.” God’s will? What God is that? The God of the Taliban who stone women and force teenaged girls to submit to their 50 year-old husband’s sexual fantasies? Is this the God that Albert Pujols admires so much?
Albert might have the excuse that he hasn’t been in this country that long and doesn’t have time to watch Glenn Beck on TV. But Tony LaRussa has no such excuse. Glenn Beck is evil incarnate and he used his black magic on Pujols by offering him an award. I believe there is something in the Christian holy book about men who let their riches and fame go to their heads.
How dare Tony LaRussa say that Glenn Beck’s rally wasn’t political? Everything Glenn Beck does and says is political. He uses religion as a smokescreen to cover up his venomous hatred for anyone and anything not to his liking – and that includes people of color, immigrants, women, health care advocates, social workers, public school teachers, disabled workers, Jews, Muslims, agnostics, Hindus, and just about every Christian who doesn’t believe exactly as he does AND animal rights advocates. He hates Thomas Jefferson and lies about the separation of church and state our founding fathers believed in.
I bet Glenn Beck is laughing all the way to the bank and ridiculing Pujols and LaRussa behind their backs. A patriotic rally in support of military heroes? Are you kidding? Afghani Muslims watch Glenn Beck on TV and get so mad they go out and look for an American soldier to kill. How much harder is General Petraeus’ job in Afghanistan because of Beck’s hysterical rantings about a “mosque at ground zero.” That’s such a lie. It’s not just a mosque and it’s not at ground zero. But the truth has never handicapped Beck and his fellow hate mongers. They get rich from inciting people to inflict harm on each other.
I may be old fashioned, but I thought Jesus Christ preached “Love thy neighbor.” Glenn Beck preaches hatred and violence.
I hope Albert watches every pitch coming at him because, if there is a just God, she might want to get Albert’s attention and knock some sense into his head.
