As Republicans Predict a 2010 Surge, Democrats Dig In
By CARL HULSE
Published: October 10, 2009…Publicly and privately, Republicans have been upbeat about the midterm outlook, saying voter unrest demonstrated at meetings this summer coupled with strong candidate recruitment have them highly optimistic about capturing 40 or more Democratic seats and resuming command of the House. They are talking confidently about knocking off such old bulls as Representatives David R. Obey of Wisconsin and Ike Skelton of Missouri, the chairmen of the Appropriations and Armed Services Committees…
Let’s take a look at a little bit of Missouri election history:

Yeah, I remember the 1998 election cycle. Ike Skelton’s opponent kept calling him a “liberal”. That worked out really well as a campaign strategery.

Damn, 1996 was a bad year. Ike Skelton wasn’t able to get that 30 point margin of victory.
Now they expect legislative giants like Vicki Hartzler to pull off the upset. They’re already spending a lot of out-of-state money, but their kind of negative campaigning tends to just piss off voters in the 4th Congressional District. It takes more than batshit crazy right wingnuttery to garner more than 35% of the vote in the 4th Congressional District.
The republicans think they’re going to peel off more than 16% of Ike Skelton’s vote? That’s gonna take a serious pile of money.
This makes one wonder what color the sky is in their world. We already knew that. It’s red.

I’m sure the radio stations will enjoy receiving some of money that they’ll waste.
One of the joys of appropriations bills is that it’s a yes/no vote on a variety of issues/decisions. I think that the hate crimes bill also concerns crimes against veterans/military members because they served. Something that should get a high vote total on it’s own. But in this setting, you’ll get a hundred-plus Republicans voting against that.
