That popping sound you’re hearing is right wingnut heads exploding across America.
President Obama has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
Obama gets reward for world view
…The committee does not make any secret of its approach. It states that he is being given the prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples.”
This is of course an implied criticism of former US president George W Bush and the neo-conservatives, who were often accused of trying to change the world in their image.
The committee “attached special importance to Obama’s vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.” But it also mentioned the UN, climate change and the “strengthening” of democracy and human rights…
Cue the so-called mainstream pundits citing the leftist liberal selection committee in three, two, one…
The individuals who won presidential elections on either side of dubya, Al Gore (2007) and Barack Obama (2009) have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. And all dubya can maybe look forward to is an appointment as Commissioner of Little League Baseball.

was only twelve days after Obama took office, this is not about what he’s actually accomplished so much as it’s about taking a different course than dubya did. The world wants us to know what a huge collective sigh it is heaving that dubya and Darth are gone.

You pegged that right. OK, this isn’t a mainstream pundit talking, but a right winger. Still it’s so predictable. And I hear on Diane Rehm’s 10:00 hour that Islamic jihadists oppose Obama getting the prize. The radio forgot to point out that the jihadists, “joined by their right wing counterparts in the U.S.” oppose the president receiving the prize.

What has Obama done worthy of a Nobel Peace prize? Remember, he resurrected an American spirit that the world once admired. Instead of the usual D vs. R hype, he identified the values and concerns we share. He mobilized ordinary people and superior talent into a grass roots campaign. He derailed the effective but old-hat Clinton political juggernaut. Someone who never owned a business ran a $500 Billion Election Campaign. I.e. He intervened in’ business as usual’ and changed the direction of the most powerful country in the world.
Could be that we’re standing too close? In spite of our national wealth and comparatively high education level, we choose to be the worst informed and the most ignorant about history & other cultures. Bungling George’s only pre-election travel was to Mexico and Israel. He and his cronies conducted foreign policy ham-handedly and screwed up on every continent. President Obama used respected and highly skilled people during his campaign. His biography prepared him to appreciate the multiple dimensions of intervening in another country’s affairs. Perhaps the Europeans see a transformation we haven’t recognized yet. His race was not the only reason people throughout the world cheered and celebrated Obama’s election.
