A diarist at Swing State Project ranked Democratic congressman by how progressive their voting record was in the last cycle compared to how Republican their district was in 2008. By that measure, Rep. Ike Skelton is a progressive superstar, easily besting Dennis Kucinich.
In all seriousness, as much as I disagree with Skelton on many issues, if we didn’t have him there, the representative would probably be a far-right Republican.
Bob Yates said:
Skelton is my Congressman.
In the 90s when he came to a local party fundraiser, I told him there was only vote that I care about: who does he support to organize the House?
He got up and mentioned me and my question. He note he had a choice between a Georgia cracker and a good Missouri boy and everyone show know who he was supporting.
In the past several years, he has wondered why we are agreeing more and more. Is he changing or am I?
He would like to think it is both, but I don’t think so.
Being a Chair of an important committee is my reasoning.
