Signs of life from the Clinton campaign. It’s not surprising that Skelton endorsed Hillary Clinton, but it’s mildly surprising that he would do so at this late date with such a slim chance for Clinton to take the nomination. Was it the Wright controversy that finally pulled Skelton out of the woodwork, or did our very own 4th District resident and Hillary supporter Michael Bersin finally get to him?

My guess is that he would gravitate toward her candidacy because she is much more hawkish and militaristic than Obama.
And speaking of tough, have you noticed that yesterday and today the talking heads were doing the: Oh, the Wright thing is bad for Obama because it makes him look weak. The American people want a tough president like Hillary who can fight and fight and fight and protect the American people (wimpy sissies that they are). Obama better move fast to show how macho he can be so we all feel safe.
Oh, yeh, do they mean the citizens want a swaggering, “bring it on” cowboy like Dubya so we can replay the past 8 years in all its glory.
Why am I not feeling safer?

I haven’t spoken with Ike Skelton in a long time – way before the February primary if I recall correctly. I don’t believe I hold any sway with Congressman Skelton, particularly about who he was going to endorse and support in this nomination process.
Ike Skelton is chair of the House Armed Services Committee. Hillary Clinton serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee. I would suspect that Ike Skelton has an awareness of the quality of her work in that venue.
Hillary Clinton carried the 4th Congressional District in the February primary. I suspect that may have had something to do with it.

But I too wondered (a) why he didn’t do it earlier and (b) if he wasn’t going to bother to do it earlier why he did it right now.
But I applaud him for stating what he’s going to do.
What’s with those two DNC appointed SuperD’s from Missouri who were complaining about how haaaaaarrrd it all is? Sheesh.

If his district voted for Hillary then I can understand why he endorsed her. I just don’t believe she can help any of the down ticket candidates here in Missouri. In fact, she may hurt them enough to keep her out of the state altogether. Her negatives are too high. I already see bumper stickers with “Elect Hillary for President and Monica for VP” on vehicles. While McCain won’t bring up the scandal plenty of others will do it for him. What a mess!

I have no idea why Ike endorsed at this late date, either.
Clinton did carry his district. He knows that Obama supporters like me are going to vote for him anyway.
I have a feeling Mike got it right: they know each other through work on the Armed Services Committees.

I was with a group of Jefferson County Dems last night. People with long time experience in JeffCO and they are worried for Nixon that Obama will cause him problems. Why do Obama supporters have to be sooo snarky all the time? I am so sick of it and the lack of respect shown to my candidate that it is going to really make it hard for me to vote for Obama. I am considering writing in Hillary and I have NEVER not voted for the Dem. To be such a unifier he sure is splitting the party!

with his monica for VP. I am so sick of remarks like that, it is immature and unneccessary and it really turns off Hillary supporters.I have had very negative interactions with Obama supporters in Mo. When I was at the district delegate selection I had a complete stranger rudely snear at me and jump back when he saw my Hillary button.I belong to that group of boomer women who feel that it is our historic chance also and I have been so saddened and surprised at the sexism in the progressive blogasphere and in the media.I think the media has been horribly unfair in it’s coverage,it is like their goal is to take the Clintons down more than to give anything like even coverage.Obama supporters and the press have used old Republican smears and untruths with no push back or fact checking from fellow Dem leaders. The Clintons and Hillary’s supporters have been branded as racist because we prefer someone other than Obama. The DNC has put their thumb on the scale for Obama since the beginning, they did not have to penalize FL and MI with total loss of their delegates for breaking the rules,it is well within the rules to seat half in each state. It is also within the rules to allow a revote.Obama has blocked both with the help of the DNC.I’m tired of leaders who should stay neutral
coming out for Obama like Claire, nearly half of her state supported Hillary for the sake of unity she could have waited. I guess what I am saying is it all boils down to respect and there has been precious little of that for Hillary and her supporters. When Sen. Obama makes arrogant statements like, “I’m sure Hillary supporters will support me but I am not sure of the same for my supporters”, that really makes people like me dig in our heels.Obviously, I feel that Hillary would make a better president or I would not be so emotional about it,she has a command of the issues that is totally awesome and she is tough,I like that,I think it is going to be a necessary trait when it comes to really making change.
As for the gas tax breaks it is pandering, which although purists don’t like it, is part of winning something the Clintons know how to do.Hillary has a comprehensive energy plan, check it out on her website. Like all her plans it is through and well thought out.She also wants to pay for it with a tax on windfall profits for the oil companies. Sen. Obama has voted for gas tax breaks twice in the past. He is just trying to draw a distinction now.
Yes,there are Hillary haters in Mo.but there are more moderates who will vote for McCain if Obama is the Dem. choice. I don’t know what to say about the AA support but I know that in Philadelphia they were expecting about 100,000 more to come out and vote than they got and the suburbs went for Hillary. I think Mo suburbs will go with McCain, things have changed since our primary.
I too plan to work for Jay and am in the process of setting up a phone bank office in my neck of the woods. I have only lived in Jeffco for about seven years so I am no expert on how things will go, in my earlier post I was passing along what I heard from others who have years of history out here.

Temporiti said he wouldn’t commit himself as a superdelegate until he had gotten something for Missouri, and what he specifically wanted was a promise that the national party would not pull out of here early, as it did in ’04. Temporiti is convinced that Claire lost the governor’s mansion because Kerry pulled out early.

…In their shared time in the Senate have Barack Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s votes on military affairs (budgets, policies, personnel confirmations, etc.) been significantly different? Just asking.
