A few hours ago Mitt Romney (okay, one of his ‘people’) posted the following to his Facebook page:
President Obama’s lawsuit claiming it is unconstitutional for Ohio to allow servicemen and women extended early voting privileges during the state’s early voting period is an outrage. The brave men and women of our military make tremendous sacrifices to protect and defend our freedoms, and we should do everything we can to protect their fundamental right to vote. I stand with the fifteen military groups that are defending the rights of military voters, and if I’m entrusted to be the commander-in-chief, I’ll work to protect the voting rights of our military, not undermine them.
Wow…that sounds pretty bad! Almost like a game-changer!
Only problem with it is that it’s a flat-out, bald-faced, deliberate and intentional LIE. As in, there isn’t a word of truth to it, including the prepositions, adjectives and pronouns — but then, if you haven’t learned by now that the man is a glib and easy liar, you’re a clueless dolt and you deserve the hell that would be rained down on you by a Romney reign of error.
Those of you who read this blog — the smartest, best looking people with internet connections, if you ask me — are far smarter than the average Romney voter, though, and will not take a known liar at his word. You’ll read the actual case and learn that what the President is doing is not what the Romney camp is claiming:
Plaintiffs bring this lawsuit to restore in-person early voting for all Ohioans during the three days prior to Election Day – a right exercised by an estimated 93,000 Ohioans in the last presidential election. Ohio election law, as currently enacted by the State of Ohio and administered by Defendant Ohio Secretary of State, arbitrarily eliminates early voting during the three days prior to Election Day for most Ohio voters, a right previously available to all Ohio voters.
As you can clearly see, the suit is not being brought to restrict early voting for the military. It is being brought to restore full early voting privileges to all Ohioans. The law that is being challenged makes the military a special, protected class with additional rights beyond those of their fellow citizens of the state.
All Ohioans have had equal access to early voting in the three days prior to an election since 2005. This year, the GOP-controlled legislature eliminated early voting during this period for all civilians in the state, while preserving it for members of the military. The preliminary injunction that the Obama administration is seeking is not being sought restrict the voting rights of the military, it is being sought to restore those rights for all.
So what this means is that Romney is lying through his teeth. There is no way in hell he gets 270 electoral votes without Ohio (and his odds with it are still pretty damned slim) and that is why he is desperately spinning and throwing lies out there, hoping something sticks. But something tells me that this isn’t going to help him any. Not when the lie is so blatant that even Fox isn’t carrying his water this time.
McClanhan’s column is another example of the kind of LIES to expect from the reactionary Right.
With regard to the Clinton era bill to reform welfare, He claims that the Obama administration is “putting that record at risk. It is claiming authority to waive the law’s work requirement for able-bodied recipients – the core element of reform.”
No, what the Obama Administration has done if the following.

So, the Obama Administration is relaxing Federal regulations on the state and that is BAD.
What happened to the fundamental importance of the 10th Amendment?
It kind of reminds me of the slave states that wanted the independence to keep slavery but wanted the Federal government to force free states to return their slaves.
